Balaklava is a former city on the Crimean Peninsula and part of the city of
Sevastopol. The balaclava, a tight knitted garment covering the whole head and
neck with holes for the eyes and mouth, also takes its name from this settlement,
where soldiers first wore them. Also numerous towns founded in English-speaking
countries in later parts of the 19th Century were named "Balaklava".
Balaklava bay
A narrow meandering sea bay artfully hidden among the rocks. The Bay is
considered one of the most picturesque in the Black sea. People began settling
on the gulf coast 2.5 thousand years ago. Several nations wanted to live in this
well-placed land so they constantly competed for the territory. Balaklava Bay
was not only a good place to hide from enemies, but also to make successful raids
from. Nowadays Balaklava Bay is a unique place where yachting is being developed.
